More than a dozen Cape Coral residents have lined up to replace City Councilman Eric Grill despite the pile of challenges. A former mayor, a former councilman and Grills 2007 challenger are among those applying for appointment to the District 5 seat. The council plans to pick one of them at Mondays meeting. The deadline to apply is noon today.
The response is encouraging, said Mayor John Sullivan. "Im looking for somebody who knows whats going on," he said. "Someone whos been to a lot of the council meetings. Someone whos gotten up to speak.
Someone whos informed. "This will be the fourth time in five years the council has replaced a member by appointment. Gov. Charlie Crist suspended Grill last month after he was charged with lying to a construction client.
If Grill can beat the charges, he can return to the council. "I think there are some very good candidates that are running for this position," councilman Marty McClain said. "Im going to focus on our current issues and (candidates) knowledge of them. Im looking for open-minded, solution-driven candidates.
